Breast Surgery
There are three major breast plastic surgery types that are usually done. Some women require Breast lift surgery alone and some in combination with breast reduction that gives women’s breast stiff youthful appearance.
Breast Augmentation
Also referred as breast enhancement surgery is done to increase the Breast Size by inserting implants. It began in 1960’s and now breast augmentation is most commonly performed. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure. The implants may be saline or silicone filled. Saline filled implants are safest as the body can easily absorb any leaked saline from implant just in case. United States Food and Drug Administration FDA banned silicone gel filled implant in 1992 but recently in November 2006 silicone implants are again approved for use in breast augmentation for 22 years and older candidates.
Implant size and shape, incision location and insertion location selection depends on the surgeons and mostly it is the best to go with surgeon's decision. To make a note here, no breast implant is permanent and every woman with breast implant must undergo breast implant replacement surgery.
Breast Reconstruction
This procedure is done for breast restoration and reconstruction for mastectomy patients. Mastectomy is the treatment for breast cancer patients in which complete breast tissue or part of it is removed. Breast reconstruction is now often done along with mastectomy if patient is in good health. No matter what your age, activity or marital status is, it’s important to feel sense of completeness. Breast reconstruction not only has physical benefits but also improves psyche of patients. The reconstruction method involves removing tissue from one part and transferring it to the chest area with or without cutting its natural blood supply. Cutting off the tissue’s blood supply and reconnecting it to breast area with new blood supply is a complex procedure. The choice is yours, whether you want this procedure or not. With breast reconstruction done many women choose to reconstruct nipple and areola as well.
Breast Reduction
Reduction of breast size by removing fat tissue, glandular tissue or/and skin is known as Breast reduction or Breast Mammoplasty. This procedure is for large heavy busted women who feel heaviness on chest, pain in neck or shoulders and skin irritation. Breast Reduction is also a treatment option for men suffering from Gynecomastia- a condition in which male has large sized breast.
